On 30th March took place the Earth’s hour, an initiative carried out by the World Wild Fund for Nature (http://www.wwf.eu) which aim is fighting against the climate change through a symbolic gesture: during an hour millions of people, businesses and emblematic monumental buildings switch off their lights.
The Earth’s hour was born more than a decade ago in Sidney, in 2007, as a symbolic gesture to speak up for nature and inspire urgent action for the environment.
A symbolic gesture which consists on switching off the lights during an hour of millions of people, businesses and emblematic monumental buildings. An easy action which led later into a global movement.
More than 188 countries from thousands of cities take part in defence of the nature switching off more than 17000 monuments and iconic buildings, joining individuals, businesses and institutions for an action on stopping the loss of nature.
The Earth’s hour ask the individuals, institutions, businesses, politics, and organizations to join together to build a sustainable world for all.
Nowadays, the Earth’s hour promotes direct actions to fight against the climate change and develop initiatives to preserve the environment. Therefore, the Earth’s Hour is a unique opportunity to defend the planet, promoting sustainable way of life, fostering the renewable development, preserving our forests, seas and natural resources as well as fighting against the loss of biodiversity.
